Headmasters Message: May 13, 2020 

재학생 학부모님께, 

Dear SPAS Family, 

2020학사년도 개학과 남은 학사 일정에 관해 많은 문의가 있었습니다. 수업과 기타 문제점들을 해소하기 위해 최선을 다할 것입니다. 현재의 상황들을 고려할 경우 여러 측면에서 변화가 있을 것 입니다. 그러나 이를 잘 극복 할 수 있다는 확신을 가지고 있습니다. 

There have been many inquiries regarding our plans for the remainder of the school year, as well as the start of SY 2020. We will do our best below to address the most common concerns. Given the current challenging situation there are still a few aspects which are subject to change. However, we are confident in our communities resilience and ability to adapt as needed. 

2019-20 학사년도: 필리핀 교육부의 권고에 의하면 남은 학사기간 동안 대면 수업은 불가능 합니다. 이에 학사종료까지 온라인수업으로 대체됩니다. 학사 종료는 6월 27일 토요일 입니다. 

SY 2019: In accordance with the Department of Education Philippines recommendation there will be no return to in person classes this school year. Based on this recommendation we have made the decision to complete the school year online. Our last official day of classes will be June 27th. 

학생 지원: 온라인 수업은 모든 학생에게 쉽지 않은 도전이라는 것을 알고있습니다. 세인트폴 미국학교 선생님들은 학생들을 지원하기 위해 노력하고 있습니다. 학교의 다양한 구성원들로부터 여러 소식을 들을 수 있어 감사하고 있습니다. 교과목 선생님들께 과제에 대해 학생들의 입장을 이해해 주시기를 부탁드렸습니다. 만약 학업에 관해 어려움을 겪고 있다면 주저하지 말고 선생님께 연락하길 바랍니다. 학생마다 각기 다른 상황에서 학업을 수행하고 있고 다양한 어려움을 겪고 있는것을 파악했습니다. 이에 따른 학생들의 요구를 수용하기 위해 최선을다하고 있다는 것을 이해해주길 부탁드립니다. 

Student Support: We understand these are very challenging times for everyone. Our teachers and administrators have been reaching out to students to offer support. We are happy to have heard from the majority of our community. We have asked that our teachers be available and flexible with their assignments, so please be sure to contact them with your academic concerns. Every student has a unique situation and please understand we are doing our best to accommodate your needs. 

학사종료(전학년): 6월 27일 오는 6월 25, 26일은 중고등학교 기말고사 기간 입니다. 학사 마지막 날인 27일에는 Award Ceremony가 있을 예정입니다. 

Last Day for Grades 1-12 is June 27: Middle school and High School students will have their final exams June 25 and 26. The 27th will be reserved for award ceremonies. 

상장 수여식: Nursery 부터 12학, 전학년에 걸쳐 라이브로 사장 수여식을 할 예정입니다. 이와 관련해서 추가 공지를 할 계획입니다. 

Award ceremonies: We intend to hold live streamed award ceremonies for nursery through grade 12. This is a valuable time to recognize and acknowledge our students. Further announcements on the planned ceremony will be sent out over the next few weeks. 

졸업식: 필리핀에서 직접 졸업식을 개최할 기회가 있기를 희망하고 있습니다. 다만, 현재 상황에서는 불가능에 가깝다고 전망하고 있습니다. 이에 필리핀 이외의 곳에서 졸업식을 열 수 있는 가능성이 있는지 확인하고 있습니다. 물론, 우리는 현지에 있는 졸업생들을 위해 더 많은 계획을 세울 수 있길 바라고 있습니다. 우선 6월 말경으로 졸업식을 예상하고 있습니다. 확정이 되면 추가 발표가 있을 예정입니다. 

Graduation: We are still hopeful there will be an opportunity for an in person graduation here in the Philippines, but under the current circumstances we do believe this might not be a possibility. We are also checking if any in-person graduation outside of the Philippines is a possibility and, of course, we hope to make further plans for our locally graduating seniors. For now we have tentatively planned for the graduation to be at the end of June and will make further announcements as plans are confirmed. 

교과서 및 비품 반납: 학교 비품 포함 교과서와 사물함 열쇠 반납 들을 계획중입니다. 이에 관해 상세한 일정은 6월 중순에 재공지 드릴 예정입니다. 

Clearance and books: We are hopeful that the conditions will improve and when they do we plan to arrange a drop off schedule for books and other school materials. We expect to have more details and a confirmed plan by the middle of June. 

환급: 작금의 사태로 다양한 사람들이 여러 어려움을 겪고 있습니다. 현재 학교 인력을 유지하고 모든 사람들에게 급여를 제공하기 위해 최선의 노력을 다하고 있습니다.재단에서는 학생들이 받지 못한 서비스에 대해 적절한 환급이 이루어 질 수 있도록 보장하면서 학교 구성원들을 위한 도움도 함께 이루어 질 수 있도록 중점을 두고 있습니다. 가능한 빨리 인보이스를 수정하고 6월말부터 환불이 진행되도록 노력하겠습니다. 

Refunds: During these very difficult times, undoubtedly many are facing hardship. With that said, several members of our community have expressed concern regarding our staff. We would like to assure everyone that we are doing everything we can to maintain our current staffing and provide everyone with salaries. In addition the school board has placed emphasis on providing for our community members while ensuring we are able to appropriately provide refunds for services not received. We will update invoices as soon as possible and process refunds starting the end of June 

스쿨버스, 점심, 비자비, 기숙사비, 기숙사 주말 활동 비용: 위의 기타 비용은 인보이스에서 조정 또는 환불을 받을 수 있습니다. 

Transportation, Lunch, Unspent Visa Fees, Dorm and After-school Activity Refunds: We would like to assure everyone that these fees will be prorated and adjustments to your invoice with refunds made as soon as possible. 

수학여행비: 100% 환급. 

Field trip: 100% of field trip fees will be refunded

2020-2021 학사년도:  필리핀 교육부의 가장 최근 발표에 의하면 8월 24일 수업을 재개 할 수 있는 것은 의심의 여지 없는 사실 입니다. 사태 이전에 논의되던 개학일은 8월 27일 이었습니다. 가능한 예정일과 비슷한 시점으로 개학을 준비 중입니다. 현재로서는 온라인 수업 혹은 대면 수업으로 개학을 할 것인지 확정하기 어렵습니다. 그러나 온라인 개학을 대비하여 보다 포괄적인 온라인 시스템 구축을 계획하고 있습니다. 불확실한 것이 많지만 교실로 돌아가기 위해 모든 노력을 기울이고 있습니다. 

SY 2020: The most recent announcement from the Department of Education Philippines has made it clear that we will be able to start classes by August 24th. Our original plan was to begin August 27th and at this point we plan to keep as close to this date as possible. We are still unsure whether we will be in the classroom or online. However, we are planning for a more comprehensive online system in the event that we must open online. Please keep in mind that there continues to be a great deal of uncertainty but we are making every effort to get back into the classroom. 

학비: 현재 많은 분야의 기업과 기관들이 경재적인 어려움에 있으며 학비 인상이 미칠 악용을 이해하고 있습니다. 이에 내년도 학비를 동결 합니다. 

Tuition: We understand that many businesses and institutions are under pressure at this time and we feel increasing tuition might add more stress to our community. For this reason, our current SY 2019 fee structure will remain unchanged for the SY 2020. 

재등록:  6월은 다음 학사년도 재등록 기간입니다. 아직 등교의 조건에 관련해 확실히 정해진 사항은 없습니다. 하지만 7월 1일 까지 재등록을 희망하는 학생들을 파악하려 합니다. 이는 다음 학사년도 계획에 많은 도움이 됩니다. 올해 환급될 내역을 다음 학기 등록금에 적용하길 희망하시는 경우 재정으로 연락주시기 바랍니다. 

Reservation and Re Enrollment: In the next month, we intend to issue invoices for the next school year. We understand there is a great deal of uncertainty for everyone, however, it would be a great help to receive your confirmation and payments as soon as possible. We hope to have a better idea of our returning students by July 1st. This will greatly improve our ability to plan for next year. If you would like to apply this year's refund to next year's tuition please contact finance to make these arrangements. 

인증기관 내방: 현재 세인트폴 미국학교가 받은 인증과 더불어 추가적으로 Cognia(AdvancED) 인증을 받으려 합니다. 이를 준비하며 학교 구성원의 많은 헌신이 있었습니다. 특히 각 교과목 선생님들은 계획 수립과 준비에 적극적으로 동참하셨습니다. 앞으로 몇 주 동안 이와 관해 더 많은 공지가 있을 예정이며 이 여정에 함께 동참해 주시길 희망합니다. 

Accreditation: In addition to our current accreditations, we are seeking further accreditation with Cognia (AdvancED). This process involves a great deal of commitment from our teachers, staff, administrators, and our parents. Our faculty have been actively working on gathering resources and planning for this successful accreditation journey early next school year. 

학교의 많은 구성원으로 부터 여러 소식을 전달 박고 있습니다. 응원과 격려에 감사합니다. 예기치 않은 상황에 모든 것은 도전의 연속이였습니다. 이를 통해 조금 성장할 수 있었습니다. 선생님들과 학생들은 장래 상용될 기술들을 배울 수 있었으며 이에 빠르게 적응했습니다. 교육의 정상화를 위해 다양한 시도와 많은 노력이 요구되는 힘든 시간 이었지만 성장 할 수 있는 의미있는 경험이였습니다. SPAS 구성원들이 학생들에게 양질의 교육을 제공하기 위해 어떤 방식으로 장애물을 극복했는지 잊지 않겠습니다. 위의 내용과 관해 문의사항이 있으시면 주저하지 말고 연락주시기 바랍니다. 

We have heard from a large number of our community members and we are incredibly thankful for your support. While this situation has brought about many challenges, we feel it has been an amazing opportunity for growth. Our teachers and students have quickly adapted and learned a whole new technical skillset which undoubtedly will leave a lasting positive impression on their future. Our families have had time to grow and spend quality time albeit stressful. This will be a time in history which we will look back at and remember how the SPAS family overcame many obstacles in order to continue providing our community with the highest possible quality education. We must be thankful for the blessings we have, and surely thankful for our supportive community.
